GBA and International Engagement

BSc(EM) Students Participated in a Greater Bay Area Learning Trip to Shenzhen Schools and a Professional Body

In December 2023, the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Executive Management (BSc(EM)) students from the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) participated in a two-day, one-night Greater Bay Area (GBA) trip to Shenzhen Longhua Foreign Language School, Longhua Central Primary School and the Greater Bay Area Talent Centre. This trip enabled students to gain a deeper understanding of the latest development in GBA and enhance their competitiveness for future development in GBA cities.

Collaboration between EPL and University of Southampton: Empowering Education through Professional Learning Communities

This summer, EPL visited the School of Education at the University of Southampton to discuss a series of collaborations.

Over the following months, Dr Ewan Wright, Assistant Professor of EPL and Programme Leader of the Executive Master of Arts in International Educational Leadership and Change (IELC), EdUHK worked closely with Dr Henry Koge, Teaching Fellow of the University of Southampton to design an online ‘mini-course’ on professional learning communities.

The participants were internationally diverse, creating a unique opportunity for dialogue across different cultural contexts. They came from 14 different countries or jurisdictions.

Ewan noted: “This EdUHK-Southampton collaboration is an excellent opportunity for our students to expand their network internationally and develop practices that can make a positive impact at their schools”.

Renewal of IB authorisation for the Minor in Teaching and Learning in International Schools

We are currently in the process of renewing IB authorisation for the Minor in Teaching and Learning in International Schools. The Minor paves the way for a teaching career in international schools and qualifies students to claim the IB certificate in teaching and learning, which is a valued credential that also offers access to IB resources. We are happy to continue our connection with the IB who will undertake a ‘virtual visit’ at the end of February. Thanks to all involved in the re-authorisation process.

Research

The Launch of Three New Research Programs

We are delighted to announce the launch of three research programs at EPL, each focusing on critical aspects of educational leadership and policy: 1. Teacher behaviors, emotions, and development, 2. Leadership, school improvement, and change, 3. Social class, diversity, and inclusion. These initiatives are not only aimed at advancing knowledge in these areas but also at fostering a culture of collaboration within the department. In line with our commitment to global perspectives, we also invite international collaborations to create a collective impact on the future of education. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this transformative research journey. For inquiries and collaboration opportunities, please reach out to sgumus@eduhk.hk
