Energy Saving

Desiccant Dehumidification System

Control of relative humidity (RH) is critical in library where extensive collections of books and publications are stored. Air conditioning system can serve both cooling and dehumidification but is not energy efficient when cooling is not needed after opening hours. Desiccant dehumidification system helps to keep RH in proper condition and share the latent load of the air conditioning system resulting from removal of moisture from air.

Electronic Thermostats

With their greater accuracy, the electronic thermostats used in teaching facilities and offices do not only enhance comfort but also help save energy.

Electronic Water Conditioner

Electronic water conditioner is a radio frequency transformer which induces an electric field into the water to kill bacteria. It helps to reduce the chlorine consumption by 30%, as well as the chlorine-like smell and irritation caused by chlorination.

Energy Efficient Lighting

More energy saving LED lightings are widely used in the whole campus, including offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, laboratories, corridors and exit signs.

Green IT

With the new virtual machine technology using VMWARE, several servers can be combined into one physical server. The key benefits include better use of hardware by sharing resources, saving money, conserving energy and reducing the load of air-conditioning that supports the servers.

LPG Shuttle Buses

The shuttle buses for internal routes (PSK Sport Centre and Tseung Kwan O Study Centre) are powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is less polluting in terms of emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and respirable suspended particulate.

Occupancy Sensor Light Control

Occupancy sensor switches are installed in the toilets and staircases in Block A. B and D with motion-sensing features and help to save energy when the toilets and corridors are unoccupied. If no motion is detected within a specified period, the lights are turned off until motion is sensed again.

Smartcard Classroom Control

Users are required to use their smart cards to access the reserved facilities and activate the lighting, air conditioning and AV equipment. It ensures that energy and facilities are enabled only when the room is in use.

T5 Fluorescent Tubes in Main Gym

Metal halide (MH) lamps have a long warm-up period which makes them less suitable for frequent switching applications. An additional lighting system using T5 high-output fluorescent tubes is used in parallel with the MH lamps to avoid leaving the lighting on continuously throughout the day and hence save energy.

Water-Cooled Chiller Plant

Replacing air-cooled chillers by water-cooled system results in 15% energy saving, equivalent to 6,000 tonnes CO2-e reduction per year.
