  2. To cultivate self-awareness by understanding the self;

  3. To foster the discourse on art using the English language.

Participants

All EdUHK students are welcome to join this competition.

Event Description:

Embark on a journey of self-discovery! The “Self-Discovery” Art Competition provides students with a chance to discover and articulate themselves through art creation and English communication.

In this contest, participants will create a two-dimensional artwork in any medium or style – which can be a drawing, painting, digital work, or mixed-media work – in response to the theme ‘self-discovery’. Then, they will present the ideas of their work verbally in a video recording, which should be at least 5 minutes long and in English. Since both the artwork and presentation must be original, the use of AI is strictly prohibited. The three best submissions will be awarded the Gold Prize, Silver Prize, and Bronze Prize. The Gold Prize winner will receive a $800 coupon, the Silver Prize a $500 coupon and the Bronze Prize a $200 coupon. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Participants will submit the digital image of their artwork and the video link of their presentation via the submission portal provided in the email. After the competition, winning entries (i.e. the original artwork) will be exhibited in the ASLLC centre and artists will be invited to a sharing session in the exhibition opening. Meanwhile, their artwork image and presentation video will be displayed on the ASLLC website.

Artwork Requirements:

  2. There is no restriction to the genre, medium and size of the original work, but the art piece should be two-dimensional;

Presentation Requirements:

  1. Before starting the presentation, participants must ensure that they appear on camera and present their student ID cards, reading aloud their names and student ID numbers, for verification;

  2. Participants must ensure that they can be clearly seen and heard in the video;

  3. The presentation must be delivered in English and no less than 5 minutes;

  4. Participants should explain how their artwork conveys the given theme from various perspectives, such as source of inspiration, concept, medium, techniques, composition, colour choice, tone, etc.
