The trial was a success with 85 per cent of the 200 students surveyed recommending the system be continued. It will now be further extended to students in the full-time Postgraduate Diploma in Education in 2002-03.

In these and many other ways, the Institute is striving to ensure that graduates attain the attributes that best benefit the children they will teach: professionalism, content knowledge, practical skills and communicative abilities, as well as being able to take on a leadership role in their curriculum areas.

We believe that a firm grasp of cultural subjects is essential if this aim is to be achieved and there is a marked emphasis in this area in our curriculum and in many of our other activities. In this way, we can ensure a supply of outstanding young people fully prepared to offer excellent teaching in subjects vital to the all-round development of their own students.
