Objectives
This initiative aims at having a more thorough understanding of students' and teachers' current AI literacy and STEAM competency, and then implementing corresponding efforts to enhance these qualities in them. This initiative thus has two major phases:
- Investigation phase
In this phase, surveys were developed and administered to evaluate students' and teachers' AI literacy and STEAM competency. Interview questions were also developed. Students and teachers were interviewed to solicit more comprehensive information about their knowledge and opinions on AI and STEAM. Survey and interview results were then analysed to identify strong and weak areas in students' AI literacy and STEAM competency. - Nurturing phase
With a better understanding of students' and teachers' strong and weak areas from the previous phase, corresponding workshops and seminars were designed and organized to improve their overall AI literacy and STEAM competency, benefiting more than 350 students and more than 200 academic and teaching staff. Post-event evaluations were conducted to assess the effectiveness of these activities in promoting AI literacy and STEAM competency to students and teachers. The findings of this initiative were shared in international conferences and institutional staff professional development seminar.
In summary, the objectives of this initiative are:
· to assess students' and teachers' current level of AI literacy and STEAM competency via the use of surveys and interviews;
· to identify strong and weak areas of AI literacy and STEAM competency in students and teachers;
· to enhance students' and teachers' AI literacy, particularly the identified weak areas, via events such as workshops, courses, and seminars.
