Speaker: Dr. Cheung Wing Tak (Former Associate Professor of Department of Chinese Language Studies, The Hong Kong Institute of Education) 

Through lesson preparation, observation and evaluation, the workshop aims to enhance teachers’ skills of implementing self-directed learning (SDL) in their classroom and to nurture students’ abilities on SDL.

The workshop aims to enhance teachers’ skills of implementing SDL in their classroom. The content includes the concepts of SDL, strategies of implementing SDL and the roles of parents.

There are three orientations of SDL: The Metacognition Orientation, The Instruction Model Orientation, and The Learning Enrichment Orientation. Motivation is the key to SDL which requires students to take the initiative in formulating goals to address their learning needs, choosing appropriate learning strategies, and evaluating the learning outcomes. It is significant for teachers to design structured learning activities to motivate students and stimulate their initiate to self-learn.
