Forty-five young scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and Germany participated in the Second International Training Camp for Young Public Policy Scholars at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) in August. Organized by the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS), this one-week program provided intensive training on state-of-the-art theoretical and methodological developments in public policy. A group of distinguished scholars including Anthony B.L. Cheung, Giliberto Capano, Richard Walker, M Ramesh, Eduardo Araral, and Jiwei Qian hosted research workshops on a wide range of popular topics such as the use of big data in social sciences, experimental public administration research, institutional analysis, and social policy design. Also provided to young scholars was practical guidance on how to get published in leading international journals. This training camp was a continuation of the inaugural workshop hosted in EdUHK last year that was highly appreciated by participants. The Asia-Pacific Public Policy Network, Policy and Society: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Policy Studies, and Journal of Asian Public Policy supported the camp. Aside from this training camp tailored to young scholars, APS also hosted its fourth Public Policy Summer School for close to 200 undergraduate students from mainland China. Participants came from reputable mainland universities including Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Xiamen University, Xi’an Jiaoting University, and Shandong University. They enjoyed a variety of activities such as workshops, seminars, and field visits, and joined a highly challenging 48-hr policy analysis case competition. Successfully held since 2016 on an annual basis, this summer school series has become a highly popular signature program of APS in its mainland outreach.
