The Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Sports in 2022/23

LI Yan Tung

Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching

Awardee of the President’s Commendation in Sports in 2022/23

Back then in secondary school, I discovered my passion for lifesaving, a sport that I found intriguing and challenging. Since then, I have been dedicated to training and improving my skills in lifesaving. Being a non-mainstream sport, lifesaving is not widely known to the public. Despite the fact that not many understand the challenges of being a sportsman, I have been fortunate to meet and interact with elite athletes from other fields at EdUHK, encouraging and inspiring me to strive on and relentlessly pursue my dream.  Meanwhile, studying the Sports Science and Coaching programme has provided me with a well-rounded education, not only improving my own sports performance from a scientific perspective but also allowing me to contribute to the wider sports community.

With the achievements made in the international competitions in 2022, I am even more motivated to keep pushing myself in the hope of bringing honour to Hong Kong. Taking this opportunity, I wish to extend my immense gratitude to EdUHK for the unwavering support provided to student-athletes like myself. This is my hope that I may share the joy of playing sports and give back to the University and the society in future.

The Education University of Hong Kong considers it vital to encourage students’ active engagement in co-curricular activities so as to build value systems and personalities, broaden horizons and absorb knowledge from alternative and non-traditional sources.  The President’s Commendation Scheme (PCS) was introduced in 2010/11 as a University-level recognition of students’ non-academic achievements.
