In response to the Education Bureau's newly released Blueprint for Digital Education Development in Primary and Secondary Schools, a workshop on AI tools was held on 21 September 2026 to prepare pre-service ICT teachers for their upcoming block practice and equip them with the capability to leverage emerging technology.

The workshop, “AI Adoption in Hong Kong Secondary Schools and Practical Applications for Pre-service ICT Teachers”, was delivered by Ms Stephy Ho, Business Development Manager of Straight A, an Apple Premium Education Partner serving Hong Kong schools. Ms Ho first analysed three real-world AI scenarios in local secondary schools: reducing administrative and assessment workload, shifting ICT lessons from syntax-checking to computational-thinking and “prompting as a skill”, and scaffolding for learner diversity. She then ran live demonstrations, generating a tiered lesson plan for an abstract topic such as binary search, building an interactive sorting-algorithm simulator with Gemini Canvas, and configuring a Socratic AI tutor that refuses to hand students direct answers and instead asks guiding questions.

Ms Ho opened the session on the current state of AI adoption in Hong Kong secondary schools.

The workshop introduced a new mindset framework for pre-service ICT teachers: “pedagogy first, curated environment, focus on reasoning”.

Around 20 final-year students of Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Secondary) - Information and Communication Technology joined the workshop
