The aim of our KRA to develop, sustain and promote research strategies that will help its members to engage in research in areas related to the dynamic and exciting world of teachers, in terms of their individualistic and professional growth. This is a significant area, linked as it is with the fundamental ethos and vision of our institute to further the cause of education, especially teacher education, in Hong Kong. It is also critical insofar that this is an area that is multi-faceted, broad-based and complex – thus offers a wide scope for research.
Some of areas which direct our future research efforts are:
- Issues and Contexts of Teacher Education and the Teaching Profession
- Programs and Processes of Teacher Education
- Quality Assurance, Reforms and IT in Teacher Education and the Teaching Profession
- Teacher Study and Teaching Competence
- Staff Development and in Subject Areas and in Higher Education
This is by no means a comprehensive list of our research directions. Over time we hope to increase our research profiles to mirror the emergent and complex needs of the teaching profession in Hong Kong and elsewhere.
Our members have a wide range of research interests linked by the common theme of developing a stronger knowledge base in areas linked to the work of teachers and to teacher educators. We will focus on supporting our members to engage in active research and enhancing their publication profiles by:
- organizing workshops, seminars, and symposiums, targeted to increase interest and awareness in researched and researchable areas, research methodology, technologies to aid research;
- hosting informal presentations where colleagues share their research and publication experiences and act as informal blind reviewers;
- building collaborative and collegial frameworks between like minded colleagues with an aim towards the development of short and long-term projects and in funding exercises;
- enhancing the publication profiles of our members – individually, in terms of RAE level publications and as a group with the publication of a special issue (s); and
- organizing study group meetings or research retreats to review papers prior to submission and to organize research teams to apply for research grants.
