Dr. Ronnie H. Shroff has a Ph.D. in Information Systems, with over eight years of experience in teaching and conducting research in instructional technologies, group support and collaborative learning systems. The focal point of his doctoral research, completed in March 2006, was an assessment of the factors supporting student intrinsic motivation in online and face-to-face discussions. Dr. Shroff’s academic background in Information Systems, has led to his continuing research in educational technology, by integrating Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning environments.

Dr. Shroff is currently an Assistant Professor with the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd). His research is mainly devoted to different pedagogies in terms of approaches, emerging concepts about learners and learning, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the social construction of knowledge through networked learning and e-learning environments.

Dr. Shroff’s professional interests include the use of technology to support social-constructivist learning environments, collaborative learning and effective learning environments. Through his research, Dr. Shroff concentrates on the development of cognitive learning skills and motivational dispositions and how this development can be facilitated through interactive and learner-centred mediated instruction and the incorporation of instructional technologies, across various teaching and learning settings.

Dr. Shroff’s past publications have been in the area of Group Support Systems (GSS), intrinsic motivation, socio-cultural learning, e-learning and collaborative learning contexts. His current research at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) focuses on the area of mobile learning (m-learning), the utilization of web-based technologies to facilitate online dialogue and feedback mechanisms and the utilization of technology to support social-constructivist learning, effective learning, collaborative learning and outcome-based teaching and learning environments.
