New Ways Forward in Teacher Education

Master Programme expanded to meet pressing and diversified demands

In the coming few years, the education reform, which brings about far-reaching implications for both the academic structure and the curriculum, will pose new challenges to professional educators.

As a major teacher education provider, the Institute understands well the needs of serving professionals in enhancing their capacity in order to cope with the changing demands of the education sector and schools. As such a self-financed Master of Education (MEd) programme was introduced by the Institute in early 2005 with five choices of specialisation. Only one year after being launched, the MEd programme is to further expand and will cover the following ten choices in 2006:-

- Chinese Language Education   - English Language Education
- Creative Arts - Musical / Visual Arts*   - Exceptional Learning Needs*
- Curriculum and Innovative Teaching*   - Liberal Studies Education*
- Early Childhood Education   - Science Education*
- Educational Management and Leadership   - Teacher Professional Development

(Note: Specialisations marked with * are those opened in 2006. The rest were opened in 2005)
