Centre for Development and Research in Small Class Teaching inaugurated with generous donations

The fruitful collaboration between HKIEd and the educational community in Hong Kong and elsewhere, in regard to small class teaching, was witnessed by participants at the Teachers' Professional Development Day held on 25 February 2006. The event was well attended, with some 300 local school principals and teachers, and a 40-strong delegation from Shanghai. Shanghai and local educators conducted a series of seminars and workshops on "How to Enhance Learning Effectiveness through Small Classes".

The Day also marked the inauguration ceremony (photo) of the Centre for Development and Research in Small Class Teaching. The setting up of the Centre was made possible by the generous donations from Pacific Century Premium Developments Limited ($2 million), the Early Light Industrial Co. Ltd. ($200,000), the Philip K H Wong Foundation ($100,000) and hundreds of school principals, teachers and individuals.

The Centre will build upon the successful experiences of the Institute's Small Class Teaching Research and Development Project, gained over the past two years. Its mission is to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning in small class environments, by promoting teachers' professional development, applied research and through a professional exchange with the mainland and overseas.
