Merrill Lynch gives sustained support to Project Aspire Since its inception in April 2004, Project Aspire seeks to offer a
comprehensive model of care that focuses not only on the needs of children
with Asperger Syndrome (AS) but also those of their families and schools.
AS children have autistic traits, normal or above average intelligence
and relatively normal speech ability. After year-long weekly training
under Project Aspire, AS children learn the skills that enable them
to integrate more meaningfully in the school and other social environments.
The children have shown definite improvements in their social behaviour.
Positive feedback from parents and teachers has been received. |
The Project has thus far successfully
raised about $7 million, of which $5.5 million was donated by Merrill
Lynch (Asia Pacific) Limited and its staff. The Project is now in its
second year of operation and has grown from a programme serving a total
of 14 children (in 2 classes) in 2004/05 to 48 children (in 6 classes)
in 2005/06, with a parent support network of around 100 families. |
