Nostalgia in Folk Music Nite

It was a cold and humid evening on 21 January 2006 when the Institute staff and students and an audience from the local schools flocked to our Tai Po campus for a Folk Music Nite. Their hearts were however warmed by the folk music played by Dr Ronald Tang Wai-yan and his friends -- outstanding guitarists, drummers and folk group in their own rights. Dr Tang is no stranger to public performance, for he was a folk singer and former DJ at RTHK, whose songs were once frequently played on the airwaves. With his singing of "House of the Rising Sun", "Street of London", "Rain" and "Seven Daffodils"......, the audience's emotions and trains of thought were brought back to the 60s and 70s. They were so much carried away that some volunteered to back the guitar performance with impromptu harmonica playing and on-stage vocal singing, while a few simply danced to the music in their own seats. Before reluctantly leaving the venue after the two-hour folk concert, the audience was reassured that they were entitled to attend talks and exchange views on "Arts Performance and Education" with celebrated film director and radio DJ in the summer of 2006. The fun-filled folk concert helped to raise a sum of close to $100,000.
