Research result of two Mathematics major students accepted by a Taiwan academic refereed journal

Several HKIEd Mathematics major students have been working as participants in a Student Research Seminar run by HKIEd Mathematics academic staff, since December 2004. The students are engaged in group work with each group working on the solution of an achievable unsolved mathematics problem.

Their research results are outstanding. Some of them are published in various proceedings and periodicals. In particular, an article, titled From solving cubic equations to regular heptagon construction, written by two Bachelor of Education (Primary) year 3 students, Ruby Ha Tsz-wai (left) and Althea Wong Yik-ni (right), and co-authored with one of our Mathematics academic staff, was accepted by a Taiwan Mathematics refereed journal, MathMedia. The fact that the article can be published in a refereed journal is recognition of the high academic standard demonstrated by our students. They were praised for being able to connect two different mathematical concepts, namely cubic equation formula and geometric construction, to conclude a very interesting regular heptagon construction method.
