Mainland proficiency sets exemplary
model for students' learning " When I see the children's flair in music and rhythm, I understand that it's equally important for teachers to have mastered the skills. The teachers are of an extremely high calibre. As a soon-to-be qualified kindergarten teacher myself, I realise that I must work doubly hard to strengthen my knowledge in the arts." Chan Wing-nam |
Tsui Sin-yee is another student of the QKT Programme participating in the study programme. Seeing how children in Guangzhou have the space to run and jump freely on the playground highlights the lack of such opportunity for young students in Hong Kong. The Guangzhou children were in class for a "Showering in Three Activities", an exercise intended to help the stretching of leg muscles. As a result, they are all healthy and quite strongly-built. Sin-yee said that it is difficult to adopt this in Hong Kong with constraints of space and the teacher-student ratio. The ratio is as high as 1:14 or 1:15 in Hong Kong, compared to mainland where it is from 1:4, up to 1:8. This is something Hong Kong can only envy.
* Showering in Three Activities refers to students enjoying
exercising under the sun, the wind and in the water.
