Mainland proficiency sets exemplary model for students' learning
Study tours to Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou have taken our students to various kindergartens that specialise in music, art or dance. What has impressed them most has been the children's grasp of the artistic skills.

" When I see the children's flair in music and rhythm, I understand that it's equally important for teachers to have mastered the skills. The teachers are of an extremely high calibre. As a soon-to-be qualified kindergarten teacher myself, I realise that I must work doubly hard to strengthen my knowledge in the arts."

Tsui Sin-yee is another student of the QKT Programme participating in the study programme. Seeing how children in Guangzhou have the space to run and jump freely on the playground highlights the lack of such opportunity for young students in Hong Kong. The Guangzhou children were in class for a "Showering in Three Activities", an exercise intended to help the stretching of leg muscles. As a result, they are all healthy and quite strongly-built. Sin-yee said that it is difficult to adopt this in Hong Kong with constraints of space and the teacher-student ratio. The ratio is as high as 1:14 or 1:15 in Hong Kong, compared to mainland where it is from 1:4, up to 1:8. This is something Hong Kong can only envy.

* Showering in Three Activities refers to students enjoying exercising under the sun, the wind and in the water.

The Power of Works First Inter-varsity English Speaking and Debating Competition (Nanjing Normal University vs HKIEd) Dr Jasmine Luk Lecturer, Department of English 3-3-4 Education Reform "I hope to gain exposures on early childhood education research from an undergraduate or master degree course. One day, I shall be able to contribute not only as a good early childhood educator, but also as a mentor helping to train talents for the education sector." Jim Wing-hai, Avis "The training at the Institute has already provided us with a strong foundation, especially through class observation. The mentor teacher and the Institute's lecturers have taken good care of me, helping me a lot in improving my pedagogy skills. This intimate tutorship experience means so much to me as a student teacher and I will pursue the HKIEd Certificate in Early Childhood Education Programme as a move forward."
