Participating in the AIA Quest for the Champion Communicator 2005

Contribution cherished by school
The Church of Christ in China Hoh Fuk Tong College (The CCC HFT College) is one of the five participating schools. Describing the initiative as a win-win-win situation, Mr Chu Kai-wing, School Principal, said he would be most willing to participate in the Junior Teacher Support Scheme next year.

Mr So Chun-pong, Panel Teacher of The CCC HFT College, pointed out that reading, writing, listening and speaking were four inter-related areas in language learning. With the introduction of listening and speaking tests in the HKCE Examination Chinese Language Subject, the new requirements need to be supported. He explained, "As a pilot project, we set out the teaching objectives of the extension classes so that F.3 classes focus on speech training, and F.1 and F.2 on writing. Working in pairs in a small class environment, the classes, led by HKIEd student teachers, have proved to be rather effective. The student teachers have managed the classes well, and put in a lot of efforts in lesson planning." According to the evaluation survey, conducted by the CCC HFT College, over 80% of the participating students suggested they had improved their Chinese language competencies through the extension classes, and that they would like to join similar classes in the future.

Expectations on the new generation of Chinese Language Teacher
Mr Chu Kai-wing, Principal of the College, shared his views on the new generation of teachers. "To enlighten their students, teachers should keep themselves abreast of the latest developments, look for more experience through exchange opportunities, and have an excellent understanding of the subject knowledge." Expressing his expectations of Chinese language teachers, Mr Chu said, "The new generation of Chinese subject teachers should be able to teach in Putonghua, with a score of at least Grade 2A in the Putonghua Proficiency Test run by the China's State Language Commission. I hope that HKIEd students will work towards this goal - to become fully qualified Chinese language teachers of tomorrow."
