文學與方言
● 方言在今天的中國大陸正面對一個相當大的危機，因為它正在消失。說廣東話的人最清楚：情感裏頭，靈魂裏頭，最深刻、最拐彎抹角的東西，是不能用另外一種語言，用北京話說出來的。方言被禁止或是消滅了的時候，文學就會萎縮、貧血。文學是一個民族的靈魂所在，如果簡單地為了求效率，求現代化，就把方言切掉的話，失去的恐怕是你的根，而不只是你的枝幹。
 
文化厚度與英語學習
● 英語是一個插頭，它很有用，你只要帶到有電的地方，不管是哪個國家，只要你有這個東西，你就可以用。但是你不能以為這個插頭是供電的，插頭是沒有電的，電力的來源是你母語裏頭最深刻的文化，這就是民族創造歷史的所在，所以你不能在追求英語的同時，誤把這個插頭當作供電場，它不是的，供電場一定在你自己的語言裏。
