Now accepting applications, this two-year part-time programme will be introduced in September 2005 to cater for the needs of serving teachers. A special feature of this programme is that it is offered in collaboration with Lingnan University. The 30 credit point programme will consist of ten modules to be covered in three categories; namely Subject Knowledge (six modules), Pedagogy (two modules) and Practicum (two modules).
The six Subject Knowledge modules can be chosen from nine topics under three broad domains of Self and Personal Development; Society and Culture; and Science, Technology and Environment.
Lingnan University, drawing upon its expertise in Cultural Studies, will offer relevant modules on Subject Knowledge. These modules include Contemporary Life in Hong Kong, Development of Modern China, and Globalisation & Contemporary Social Change.
The Pedagogy modules covering Liberal Studies curriculum and methods and Practicum modules are compulsory.
Apart from allowing students to enjoy the joint expertise of Lingnan University in Subject Knowledge and HKIEd in Pedagogy and Practicum, an added advantage for students taking this programme is that upon completion, they can earn credit exemption if they opt to pursue HKIEd's proposed Master of Education in Liberal Studies.
Other Liberal Studies Courses
In addition to the introduction of the PGDE(S)-LSSKP, the Institute also offers
Liberal Studies as a subject in its PGDE(S) for untrained degree holders and
also plans to offer the subject in its undergraduate programme, the Bachelor
of Education (Secondary).
