Work hard, be ready to commit
"I still recall," says Ruby, "that as freshmen we had to introduce ourselves during class. As I was not a top athlete, I sheepishly told others I had no specialty." Ruby is no longer fearful and looks forward to becoming a professional teacher coaching her prospective students with skill and confidence.

"During my four-year study at HKIEd, our lecturers kept on creating learning opportunities for us. Projects and extra-curricular activities in particular helped to train up our ability in meeting challenges, and enhanced our communication and leadership skills."

Dr Chin Ming-kai, Principal Lecturer of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, taught Ruby and Semi. He was greatly impressed by Ruby's and Semi's positive attitudes, motivation and diligence. He remarked that no lecturer would hesitate to offer more learning opportunities to students like these. Such a chance arose when Dr Chin was preparing for the Second International Conference for Physical Educators, held in July 2004. Both Ruby and Semi were given important assignments. "Semi was the leader of a 15-member Opening Ceremony Organising Team. She showed flair in organisation, liaison and leadership skills which were indispensable for the successful implementation of the event."
