Graduates of the Institute continue to fare extremely well in a tough employment market. By January 2005, 92% of the students who graduated in 2004 had secured employment while a further 6.4% were pursuing further studies. The figures are even better than those for 2003.

The annual Graduate Employment Survey was conducted by the Centre for Research and International Collaboration on the 2004 graduates of full-time pre-service programmes. A total of 1,112 fresh graduates responded by early January 2005, representing a response rate of 93%.

HKIEd President, Professor Paul Morris described the employment situation as most encouraging. At the press briefing on 2 February 2005, Professor Morris said, "The high employment rate is powerful testimony to the competence and popularity of HKIEd graduates in the education sector, and has helped dispel the misperception that would-be teachers are facing unemployment in the face of the ongoing challenges of school closure."
