Co-organized by Integrated Centre for Wellbeing (I-WELL) and the Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), in collaboration with SDU University in Kazakhstan and Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris in Malaysia, "Bridging Borders Through Technology: Belt & Road Conference on Special Education" was successfully held on May 20 at the Tai Po Campus.
The conference adopted a hybrid format, combining both online and in-person participation, attracting over 250 scholars, educators, entrepreneurs, and industry experts from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. The event featured diverse formats, including keynote speeches, sharing sessions, and exhibitions, aiming to explore the latest research findings in higher education and diverse learning, as well as to facilitate in-depth exchanges on innovative applications and future directions of artificial intelligence and educational technology in the field of special education.
The conference included 37 sharing sessions, bringing together over 40 leading experts and scholars to exchange research findings and practical experiences around three key themes: "AI, Technology, and Inclusion in Education," "Special Education, Pedagogy, Psychological Interventions" and "Inclusive Education Policies, History, and Global Perspective".
Eight institutions from Hong Kong and Malaysia, including universities, non-governmental organizations, and educational technology companies, participated in the exhibition, showcasing how AI, big data, and innovative tools can address educational challenges and support children with special educational needs in communities, schools, and families.
I-WELL has been dedicated to building an interdisciplinary research network, collaborating with universities along the Belt and Road to organize academic seminars, launch joint research projects, deepen educational research cooperation, and promote systematic innovation in international talent development.
