[Asian Track Championships 2025] EdUHK Elite Student-Athletes Win One Gold, Three Silver, and Two Bronze!
Our elite athlete-students delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships, clinching one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, showcasing their exceptional skills and determination. The elite athlete-students from Bachelor of Health Education (Honours), Lee Sze Wing, Leung Wing Yee and our graduate Leung Bo Yee, have made their mark at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships on the second day. The championship was held in Malaysia from Feb 21 to Feb 27. Competing alongside Yang Qianyu in the Women’s Elite Team Pursuit event, the team advanced to the finals after finishing third in the qualification round. In the 2km split time, they were 5 seconds ahead of India. The Hong Kong team closed the gap on India before the 3km mark, ending the race early to claim the bronze medal.
The next day, further success followed as Lee Sze Wing, took silver in the Women’s Elite Elimination. She then competed in the Scratch Race, battling against eight other riders in a 10km race. Sze Wing demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, overtaking both the Malaysian and Japanese riders to take the gold, marking her first-ever career gold medal in the senior Asian Championships. Sze Wing's remarkable achievements earned her a complete set of medals – gold, silver, and bronze – making her the standout athlete of the competition.
On the fourth day of competition, our elite athlete-students once again brought home medals. In the Men’s Elite 40km Points Race, Mow Ching Yin (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)), made a decisive move in the final 5 laps to overtake his opponents, securing a crucial 20 points. With a total of 28 points, he surpassed the other riders and clinched the bronze medal, finishing just behind competitors from Japan and Kazakhstan. This marks his third consecutive bronze medal in the event. In the Women’s Elite 25km Points Race, Leung Bo Yee delivered a steady performance, earning points in 6 out of the 10 sprint laps. She finished the race with 13 points, securing 5th place.
In the Women’s Elite Madison event, Lee Sze Wing once again won a medal, teaming up with Leung Wing Yee. The race consisted of 120 laps (30km) with 12 sprints. The duo finished with 34 points, claiming the silver medal and beating the Uzbek rider, who was 2 laps behind, by 13 points. This marks their second consecutive appearance on the Madison podium, having previously won a bronze last year.
On the fifth day of the competition, EdUHK elite athlete-student Tso Kai Kwong (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)), teamed up with Chu Tsun Wai to compete in the Men’s Elite Madison. The duo delivered an impressive performance, finished with a total of 31 points, falling just 4 points short of the Indonesian pair and ultimately placing fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium finish.
On the sixth day of the competition, Lee Sze Wing competed in the Women's Elite Omnium, which featured seven riders. The first event, the 7.5km (30-lap) Scratch Race, saw the Japanese rider make a strong breakaway in the final five laps to take victory, while Sze Wing closely followed and finished second.
In the second event, the Tempo Race, Sze Wing successfully secured sprint points within seven laps. However, the Japanese rider once again dominated the race. After the first two events, Sze Wing accumulated 76 points, placing her second overall, just four points behind the leader. In the final stage of the Omnium, Sze Wing battled fiercely but ultimately fell short by just five points, claiming a hard-fought silver medal. With this silver in her main event, Sze Wing has now reached the podium in every race she competed in at the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships. In the Men’s Elite Omnium, Tso Kai Kwong delivered a solid performance, finishing 8th overall with a total score of 108 points.
On the final day of competition, Leung Wing Yee competed in the Women’s Elite Individual Pursuit. In the bronze medal race, she improved her time to 5:02.840, but narrowly missed the podium, finishing just one second behind the Malaysian rider. Wing Yee placed fourth.
Team Hong Kong concluded the 2025 Asian Track Cycling Championships with an impressive 1 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze medals. Congratulations to the team for the outstanding performance and career milestone!
