EDNU September Research Seminar: What Happens in the Brain During Sleeping and Upon Awakening?

Date: 25 September 2015 (FRI)
Time: 15:00 - 16:00
Venue: HKIEd Tai Po Campus D2-LP-07
Speaker: Dr. Wesley Wu (National Central University, Taiwan)

Abstract:
The research about sleep has been studied for 50 years, but not until recent days do we start to understand the brain functional reorganization of human sleeping.  Through the simultaneous EEG-fMRI recordings, we were able to study the changes of functional connectivity and spectral power during nocturnal sleep.  Interestingly, the results demonstrated the regional disparity during sleeping or upon awakening, which might serve as the future imaging phenotypes for sleep disorders.

Changwei W. Wu received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan in 2009.  During 2010-2011, he served as a postdoctoral visiting fellow in National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institutes of Health, Baltimore, USA.  He is currently an Associate Professor in Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering, National Central University, Taoyuan, Taiwan.  His research interests cover the fusion technology in functional magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography and the neuroscience of sleep.
