Our Mission
The mission of the Educational and Developmental Neuroscience Unit (EDNU) is to promote neuroscience research and translate neuroscience research findings into educational theories and practices. We pull together colleagues with different expertise and cultivate interdisciplinary neuroscience research projects. We disseminate the latest neuroscience findings to teachers, schools, NGOs and policy makers for them to make more informed decisions in education.
What is Neuroscience?
Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary science that studies the biological mechanisms underlying behaviors. Education-related neuroscience research has been growing rapidly in recent years. Major research institutes in the world have been conducting various forms of brain research project to understand the brain mechanisms involved in learning and to develop more effective educational practices informed by neuroscience knowledge.
Who are we?
The EDNU is a research unit in the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) and is supported by the Area of Strength scheme from the Faculty of Education and Human Development. The members of the EDNU have a wide range of expertise in neuroscience, including memory, speech processing, reading, creativity, decision making and emotion.
What does the EDNU do?
The EDNU organizes regular research seminars and technical training workshops for colleagues and students who are interested in integrating neuroscience methods into their existing research. In addition, the EDNU organizes public lectures that aim to disseminate research findings to the community and provide teachers, parents, schools and policy makers the crucial neuroscience knowledge to make more informed decisions.
How can you get involved?
The EDNU sends out a regular newsletter to its members. The newsletter lists out the information of the research seminars and training workshops organized by the EDNU. There is also a brief review of the featured neuroscience research articles. If you are interested to receive our newsletter, please contact us.
