What is ELPA?

ELPA is a performance-based English language test, aimed at assessing academic English usage in a tertiary education context. The assessment is split into two main components:

Written Test – 2.5 hours

Tasks aim to test listening, reading and writing skills as well as the ability to make use of vocabulary.

Speaking Test – 8 minutes

It is a one-to-one interview with an examiner. The test assesses your ability to:

 develop a given topic adequately and coherently;

 use grammar accurately and appropriately;

 use vocabulary accurately and appropriately;

 pronounce words clearly and accurately, and use natural speech features, such as word stress and intonation, to enhance meanings effectively.
