Speaking Skills for English Language Tests

  1. Course Synopsis 

This course aims to prepare students for international English speaking tests. Technical aspects of pronunciation, intonation and stress are studied to help students speak fluently and appropriately in a range of formal and everyday contexts. Students will learn how to sound more “natural” in English by familiarizing themselves with the expectations and standards of selected international speaking tests. Greater language awareness of their spoken output will also be developed in the process of analyzing and remedying one’s pronunciation features.         



  1. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) 

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 



Demonstrate knowledge of English pronunciation by avoiding common errors of second language learners. 



Demonstrate knowledge of pronunciation features by applying appropriate stress and intonation patterns. 



Demonstrate knowledge of test requirements and standards. 



Act independently to evaluate others’ and their own spoken output as a study skill.
