The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) at The Education University of Hong Kong successfully hosted a three-day invited workshop series from May 26 to 28, 2025, featuring Chair Professor Gwo-Jen Hwang, a globally recognized scholar in educational technology from Taiwan University of Science and Technology and Taichung University of Education.

The workshop, titled "From Ideas to Impact: Research and Publishing in Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL)," drew strong participation from faculty, postgraduate students, and early-career researchers. Organized by Dr. Lan Yang, Associate Professor and Associate Head (Research) of C&I with support from Prof. Zi Yan, Professor and Head of C&I, the event offered a comprehensive deep dive into the conceptualization, design, and dissemination of impactful TEL research. The majority of registrants chose to join online, averaging 130 registrants per day, reflecting strong regional and international interest in TEL.

Across the three sessions, Prof. Hwang shared critical insights on:

  • Framing innovative and high-impact TEL research questions,
  • Designing rigorous experiments and selecting validated instruments,
  • Embedding emerging technologies such as AR, VR, AI, and chatbots into learning environments,
  • Addressing real-world educational problems with evidence-based solutions, and
  • Aligning research with journal review criteria using his “buffet model” of publication quality.

Drawing on his extensive experience—over 900 publications and editorships in top-tier journals—Prof. Hwang demonstrated how to turn conceptual ideas into publishable research through methodological precision and theoretical alignment. The sessions featured case studies across disciplines, including nursing, science, language learning, and professional training.

Based on survey feedback for the three sessions, participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on strategies, authentic examples, and practical tools provided. The workshop marks another milestone in C&I’s commitment to advancing research capacity and global engagement in digital learning innovation.
