Whole Person Development in the Digital Era: Chinese Perspectives and Practices in a Global Context

2025-03-03

The 2nd Chinese Society of Education Annual Conference

Whole Person Development in the Digital Era: Chinese Perspectives and Practices in a Global Context

The integration of digital tools in education has opened new avenues for teaching and learning processes, curriculum development, and student engagement.  In China, with its particularly strong emphasis on education, these technologies are rapidly transforming the educational landscape. It is a transformation that will not only improve academic results but that also nurtures well-rounded students prepared for the challenges and complexity of today’s world. This conference will examine how these technologies are being incorporated into China’s education system and their role in promoting whole person development. Examining these developments from a comparative cross-cultural perspective will allow us to better understand and contextualize the Chinese approach in a global context, and draw lessons that may benefit educational systems around the world.

Topics examined in the conference will include, but are not limited to:

  • New opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence (AI) and human capacity in the digital era
  • The role of the Chinese educational tradition in fostering whole person development and its implications for digitalized learning
  • Cross-cultural perspectives on curriculum reforms for the digital era
  • Assessment, innovation and learning engagement in Chinese contexts
  • Supporting educators to utilize technology and digital resources in teaching, learning and assessment
  • How the digital era affects private tutoring
  • Digital Strategies in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education
  • Digital learning and higher education: The Chinese experience
  • Case studies in integrating AI and digital technology in Chinese schools, and their implications for schooling globally
  • Ethical considerations and challenges posed by adopting digital tools in education

This conference explores cutting-edge issues in human development and educational transformation in the context of rapid technological progress. Through presenting and exploring diverse perspectives, it will enrich the discourse on the adoption of digital technologies to enhance academic learning and facilitate the social-emotional well-being and moral/spiritual development of students. Such a holistic approach is crucial if we are to prepare students to thrive in a digitalized global society.
