2021-05-06

Coordinated by Dr. LAM Bick Har, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction jointly presented an online pre-service teacher training workshop entitled Pre-service Teacher Training Workshop: Incorporating Core Skills in Teaching English with the British Council on 6 May 2021. Funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the workshop aimed at enhancing pre-service teachers’ knowledge of core skills and ability to incorporate core skills to develop lessons. Eighteen English major students from the Bachelor of Education (EL) and Master of Teaching programmes attended the 3-hour workshop. Participants reflected that the workshop benefited their professional learning for future teaching careers. They appreciated their enriched experience of applying core skills in both life situations and lesson planning contexts in a variety of experiential learning activities.

Creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, digital literacy and citizenship are essential core skills. These skills can help prepare young people for life and work in a globalised society. It was the second time that C&I collaborated with the British Council in organising workshops for enhancing pre-service teachers’ professional knowledge. It is envisaged that the workshop will be upscaling in the near future to meet the high demand of core skills development of teachers.
