C&I Conference Participation at ACCS and ACAH 2026 (Tokyo, Japan)

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) is pleased to report its participation in The 16th Asian Conference on Cultural Studies (ACCS 2026) and The 17th Asian Conference on Arts & Humanities (ACAH 2026), both held from 9 to 13 May 2026 at the Tokyo International Forum, Japan. The conference adopted a hybrid format, offering both in-person and online sessions, and brought together scholars from diverse disciplines across the region and beyond.

 

Dr Leung Ka Wai, together with two undergraduate students, Choy Tsz Wun and Tang Tin Lok from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (majoring in Mathematics and Information & Communication Technology, respectively), presented a paper entitled “Cultivating Interview Skills: The Role of AI Learning Platforms as a Learning Assistant – A Case Study.”

This collaborative presentation provided valuable opportunities for undergraduate students to broaden their academic perspectives, engage in international scholarly exchange, and develop global professional networks. The experience also reflects the Department’s commitment to integrating research with teaching and fostering student participation in international academic platforms.

 

 

Reflecting on the experience, student Tang Tin Lok shared:

“As an undergraduate student, presenting at ACCS 2026 was a meaningful first step in experiencing an international conference and exchanging ideas with scholars from different backgrounds. The experience broadened my understanding of how AI can be applied in educational settings and, more importantly, opened my mind to new ways of thinking about the ideas I have been developing.”

 

Student Choy Tsz Wun further commented:

“My first conference experience has been truly rewarding. Observing scholars from diverse disciplines exchange ideas helped me appreciate how interdisciplinary, or even paradisciplinary, approaches facilitate research development and collaboration across sectors. I also became more aware of shared challenges in educational settings across regions, such as the significant changes in learners’ characteristics after the pandemic. The presentation sessions and networking opportunities enabled me to connect with scholars worldwide and gain inspiration on how such challenges can be addressed, particularly through the integration of AI and technology.”

In addition, Dr Alex Lap-kwan Lam presented at the ACAH 2026 entitled “Developing an Adaptive GenAI-based ‘AI Coach’ for Higher Education Students for Interdisciplinary Usage.” He discussed the results from his innovative teaching project on the use of GenAI tools in giving feedback to undergraduate students, grounded in Self-regulated Learning (SRL) and Broaden-and-build Theory. A hands-on demonstration was conducted, accompanied by preliminary results and analysis from the project. His presentation was well received, attracting strong engagement from the audience and recognition for its innovative approach to applying generative AI in teaching and learning.

During the conference, C&I colleagues also had the opportunity to meet with Prof Hung Keung, an internationally renowned digital media artist and scholar. Prof Hung has been an active contributor to the fields of film, video, and digital new media art since 1995. His presentation, “From Stone to Pixel Art: Reconstructing the Regeneration of Han Narrative Art in the Contemporary Digital Classroom,” offered inspiring insights into the integration of cultural heritage, digital media, and education.

Overall, both ACCS and ACAH 2026 provided a valuable platform for academic exchange, interdisciplinary dialogue, and international collaboration. The experience further strengthened C&I’s engagement in innovative research and teaching development, while reinforcing its commitment to nurturing students as globally connected and research-informed educators.
