Promoting Exchanges and Understanding Cultural Diversities
Support from the prestigious Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Scholarship Programme allowed the Institute to set up scholarships for Hong Kong-Australia student exchanges over three years starting from 2003-04. The Programme places particular emphasis on promoting exchanges between Australia, Hong Kong and mainland China.

In 2005-06, Flinders University and Newcastle University nominated the Institute as their Hong Kong partner, and were successful in gaining scholarships. During the year 2005-06, a total of 21 HKIEd students visited mainland China, the UK and Australia under these Exchange Programmes.

Mr Richard Li pledged a generous donation after visiting the Institute in the company of Legislative Council Member, the Honourable Audrey Eu.

In Hong Kong, the Institute has also been active in community sponsored internationalisation activities, such as the British Council's promotion of UK-Hong Kong links to increase students' chances to go on exchanges in Britain. The HKIEd has also participated in many education exhibitions overseas. Comprehensive marketing and educational networking initiatives continue to be developed.

All for Education and Education for All

Philanthropic Network and Support Works Miracles
Two years ago, the Government started to promote a culture of philanthropy for educational causes within the community and fund-raising has become an important factor in the development of tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. In 2005-06, the Government launched the Second Matching Grant Scheme for August 2005-February 2006 and the Third Matching Grant Scheme, which commenced in June 2006, will end in February 2007.

Repeated calls for fund-raising pose a challenge for a young institution like the HKIEd whose alumni are mainly teachers without the means to make large donations. However through this network and with the many fund-raising events organised by HKIEd staff and students, the Institute was able to raise $22 million in the Second Matching Grant Scheme, $21.5 million of which was matched by the Government. With the concerted efforts of the Institute community and the generous donations of different associations, corporations, enterprises, religious bodies and individuals, the HKIEd successfully raised a total of $34 million in the 12-month period that covered the Second and Third Matching Grant Schemes.
