Applicant Requirement:
# Applicants should:

  • Be cultural managers with minimum two years of management experience, or equivalent, with evidence of active engagement in arts and cultural activities, and;
     
  • Hold a Master of Arts in Arts/Cultural Management or related discipline.

  1. Confirmation emails will be sent to applicants within 5 working days when the applications are received. Applicants can pay the fee online by credit card or post by cheque.
     
  2. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to participants with at least 80% of attendance. The certificate will be posted to the participants one month after completing the Refresher Course.
     
  3. The HKIEd reserves the right to cancel the Refresher Course depending on the enrollment. Registration fee will be returned to applicants only when the course are subsequently cancelled by the Presenter.

Develop participants’ insights on how commercial marketing principles can be applied to arts and cultural organizations, including planning and managing marketing campaigns of arts /cultural events. It also provides a practical overview of fundraising for not-for-profit arts and commercial cultural enterprises. Many case studies will be featured and participants are expected to join in discussions.

 


 
Public Forum on Branding of Arts and Cultural Organizations

Branding is a key for successful companies nowadays and cultural organizations are no exception. We have invited experts and industry leaders to share with us their insights on the subject, using life case studies from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Speakers include:

Visits
An afternoon of visits to institutions promoting visual arts and creative industries will be led by Prof. Tseng Sun-man.

Speakers

Professor Jerry HSIA Hsueh-li

Prof. Hsia is currently a professor at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), teaching creative industries management and arts marketing. His expertise lies on arts administration and management, creative industries, cultural policy studies and theatre arts. Prof. Hsia has published more than 20 books including Introduction to Cultural & Creative Industries, Management of Operational Performance of Theatres and Museums and Cultural Market and Ticketing (Co-author), etc.

 
Mr. Matthew BREGMAN

Mr. Bregman is currently the Vice-President for Development of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). He has been a professional nonprofit fundraiser for more than 20 years, having held senior positions with EI Museo del Barrio, Museum of the Moving Image, Lighthouse International and the New York Public Interest Research, etc. He was featured as a “Fundraising Star” in Fundraising Success” magazine in February 2010.


 

 

Guest Speakers

Mr. Freeman LAU Siu-hong

Mr. Lau is now the Partner of "Kan & Lau Design Consultants" and the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Design Centre . Since 1984, Freeman has won over 200 awards in overseas and local art and design competitions, including his design for the Watson’s Water won the international “Bottledwaterworld Design Awards” in 2004. Apart from his commercial projects, Mr. Lau exerts genuine assertiveness in fine arts.

 
Mr. Michael MACLEOD

Mr. MacLeod was appointed Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2011. Previous to this, he was General & Artistic Director of Glimmerglass Opera (the summer opera festival in New York State), Executive Director of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Director of the City of London Festival, General Manager of Sir John Eliot Gardiner's Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras, Assistant Director of the National Centre for Orchestra Studies in London, and General Manager of the Scottish Baroque Ensemble.

 
Professor TSENG Sun-man (Co-ordinator of Refresher Course)

Prof. Tseng has held a number of senior arts management positions in Hong Kong, including Executive Director of the Hong Kong Arts Festival Society, Secretary-General of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and Summit Chair of 2013 Cultural Leadership Summit, Hong Kong. From 2005 to 2008, he was Chair and Professor of the Arts Administration Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

 

 

Training Activities for Experienced Cultural Managers

Since 2012, The Hong Kong Institute of Education has organized training activities which are designed to address the special needs of experienced arts /cultural managers. These include one-day forum, short course and degree programmes.

In February 2014, it launched the Executive Master of Arts in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship [EMA(AME)]. This programme is specially designed for in-service arts /cultural managers who have minimum of five years managerial experience.The first cohort of EMA participants come from Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur. Participants pursue the programme on a part-time basis for two years. Two intensive 10-day teaching periods are scheduled each year in February and August. In between the teaching modules, blended learning will be conducted through e-learning platforms. An overseas study trip is also incorporated in the programme.
