UNESCO International Day – World Teachers’ Day


World Teachers' Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. The theme of the 2024 World Teachers' Day was ‘Valuing Teachers' Voices: Formulating New Education Policies’. In response to the theme, the event “World Teachers' Day 2024 cum Looking into the Future of Innovative Education in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA Seminar" was co-organized by Guangdong-HK-Macao GBA Education Forum and Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development on 5 October 2024. The event provided a platform for learning and exchange, as well as stimulating innovative thinking and promoting the education for sustainable development. The Chair Professor John C.K. LEE was a keynote speaker at the event with the topic ‘Education in the GBA Area: Challenges and Opportunities’.

UNESCO World Heritage and Intangible Cultural Heritage Teachers’ Training Programme 
 
Since 2020, the Chair Professor John C.K. LEE has been invited to be the guest speaker of the annual UNESCO World Heritage and Intangible Cultural Heritage Teachers’ Training Programme. The training programme was jointly organized by UNESCO Hong Kong Association and the Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development. Teachers who have completed the training programme can organize and develop school-based curriculum related to natural and cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage.

Inclusive green transition within the context of TVET in Iraq 
 
As part of the Leadership program for TVET leaders and decision-makers, Dr Margarita Pavlova traveled to Iraq to conduct capacity-building activities. There were about 100 participants in the Leadership program. Participants included representatives from Federal Ministry of Higher Education in Iraq and Kurdistan, Ministry of Planning, and Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, advisors to the Minister of Education, Presidents of technical universities, Director Generals of Vocational Education and HR Development Director General from the Ministries of Planning. Dr Pavlova delivered a keynote on international TVET trends, and based on Iraq’s Vision 2030, the necessary policies, and how universities and TVET institutions can initiate these efforts. She also facilitated a workshop where participants planned activities at both the ministry and institutional levels.

Greening TVET across SEAMEO countries
 
Dr Margarita Pavlova conducted a capacity building training of TVET instructors and leaders in Brunei Darussalam, as a part of the Knowledge Transfer Project titled “Greening TVET across SEAMEO countries,” from 9 to 16 September 2024. The specific objectives were to strengthen the knowledge of TVET practitioners and leaders about greening TVET, particularly in relation to curriculum and pedagogical design, through the participating SEAMEO VOCTECH centers.
 
 
Dr Margarita Pavlova conducted a capacity-building training of TVET instructors and leaders in Dili of Timor Leste from 30 November to 9 December 2024. The training engaged 25 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, SEFOPE, and accredited training centers. The specific objectives included enhancing knowledge about greening TVET, empowering practitioners to design green skills modules and resources, and assisting them in creating plans for greening their institutions.
