Research Sharing Session 1
Topic : Biomarkers and Beyond: Brain Activity Elucidates Cognitive Impairments in Schizophrenia and Predicts Treatment Outcome
Abstract: Impairments in how individuals with schizophrenia perceive, remember, learn, and process information often prevent them from living up to their full potential. Building upon evidence from her lab that patients with schizophrenia demonstrate highly specific deficiencies in their ability to maintain attentional focus and ignore distraction, Professor Yee-Bradbury will present a series of studies that clarify the malleability of compromised cognitive processes, whether they are amenable to cognitive training, and the extent to which they predict treatment outcome. Her findings support reliance on biomarkers for guiding the development of effective interventions that target cognitive impairments in schizophrenia.

Research Sharing Session 2
Topic : Writing a Successful Research Grant Proposal
Abstract: Because the climate in which scientific research is conducted changes over time, it exerts considerable influence on scientific progress and on which grant applications are deemed worthy of funding. Recent emphases include high scientific impact or significance and innovation as well as a focus on replication and reproducibility. During this session, we will discuss factors that contribute to changes in emphasis and their influence on scientific practices and progress, on present and future scientists, and on fundability of research applications. Some review criteria remain intact while new and important trends continue to emerge.
