THE ROUTLEDGE SERIES ON SCHOOLS AND SCHOOLING IN ASIA
Kerry J Kennedy
Chair Professor of Curriculum Studies
The Hong Kong Institute of Education

Abstract

This session will introduce participants to Routledge Research’s recently commissioned education publication:  the Routledge Series on Schools and Schooling in Asia. The objectives of the Series are to:

  • Provide a comprehensive coverage of schooling issues in Asia.
  • Provide a platform for exploring educational futures in the region.
  • Locate schools in the broader social, political, economic and cultural contexts that construct them.
  • Investigate the ways schools cater for all groups of students, and in particular disadvantaged groups, in the quest for equality of opportunity.
  • Investigate the distinctive qualities of schools in Asia and the relationship of these qualities to schooling outcomes.
  • Highlight comparative issues in schooling across East-West divides including cultures, digital technologies, socioeconomic well being and development trajectories of different countries

Participants will interact with the General Editor of the Series, Professor Kerry Kennedy who will outline the ways in which proposals can be made in the form of either an edited or authored book. Specific topics will be discussed and participants will share their ideas and the possibilities of being involved with this exciting new educational initiative.
