Dr Liu Duo’s research interests focus on cognitive development and related problems, and especially on language and literacy development and difficulties, metalinguistic processing and developmental models. He is also interested in the adoption of both experimental and correlational approaches to research.
 
Since joining the Institute, Dr Liu has published two book chapters and five academic articles in prestigious peer-reviewed international journals, being the first author of three. These articles provide new insights into various aspects of morphological processing in relation to reading development and impairment. His research has made a significant impact in the field of Chinese literacy development, and morphological processing in particular. This is evident from his Early Career Scheme project, funded by the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and publications in broad-based journals such as the Journal of Educational Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Journal of Learning Disabilities and Applied Psycholinguistics.
 
Dr Liu has also written an encyclopaedia entry for the Canadian government and several book chapters. Currently, he is working on new research in the area of visual-spatial attention and literacy development in Chinese children, a ground-breaking work in Chinese society. He has also served as a reviewer and an ad hoc reviewer for several prestigious journals, including the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience, the Journal of Educational Psychology, the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Applied Psycholinguistics.
