They come from different department and offices, and they have diverse backgrounds and job portfolios, but they share the same mission. They were members of an ad hoc advisory group called on to accomplish a “mission impossible” – the Tseung Kwan O Study Centre relocation project.

When the government handed over a vacant primary school site in Tseung Kwan O to the Institute in February 2012 for use as an off-campus study centre, Dr Fung Shu Fun, Mr Lok Wai Ho, Rico, Mr Wong Koon Fung, Job, Mr Wong Man Lee, Edward and Miss Yeung Hang Fan, Alice, each with different attributes and expertise, were tasked to oversee the relocation to the new premises.

Sharing a commitment to provide a quality learning and teaching venue for staff and students, the team members were challenged on various fronts, including a tight timeline, physical constraints, a limited budget and stakeholders’ expectations. Their task was not plain-sailing, and it was achieved after many hours and weeks of consultation sessions, site visits and meetings.

Dr Fung Shu Fun received high praise from other team members for his invaluable inputs from the educational point of view.

Mr Lok Wai Ho, Rico and Mr Wong Koon Fung, Job contributed immensely to the renovation work as well as the electrical and mechanical facilities of the new centre, exhibiting excellence in project management.

Mr Wong Man Lee, Edward, who was responsible for the installation of computer services at the centre, displayed the outstanding ability to ensure that more than a hundred pieces of IT equipment would be available to staff and students within a short timeframe.

Miss Yeung Hang Fan, Alice was instrumental in facilitating the whole relocation process, demonstrating her strong coordination skills in building consensus amongst staff and students.

Thanks to the team’s outstanding work, the Tseung Kwan O Study Centre was successfully inaugurated in August 2012. It is now utilised by over 500 full-time students and around 1500 part-time students.
