Preventing Sexual Harassment

Dear colleagues and students,

Everyone, irrespective of their gender, pregnancy, marital / family status, disability, race, age, religion, sexual orientation, political / other opinion, national / social origin, etc. has the right to be respected and be treated fairly.  Fighting against sexual harassment has been a hot global issue in recent years, we hear about campus sexual harassment incidents in news report sometimes.  The University is committed to providing a harmonious environment for staff and students, and has zero tolerate on sexual harassment which will be handled under the Equal Opportunities Policy.

As one of our initiatives to build on equal opportunities campus free of sexual harassment, an intranet webpage on “Preventing Sexual Harassment” has been developed.  The content is set out as follows:

  1. What is Sexual Harassment? (with definition and examples)
  2. Tips for Preventing Sexual Harassment
  3. What should I do when Encountering Sexual Harassment? (as victim, witness or any person providing assistance to victim)
  4. Support Services and Enquiries / Complaints
  5. Online Resources

You are highly recommended to complete online training module of Preventing Sexual Harassment on Campus: 'A Matter of S/HE' from Equal Opportunities Commission (“EOC”).  It can raise your awareness about behaviours that may constitute unlawful sexual harassment on campus under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance.  Tertiary students who have successfully passed the test will receive a certificate from EOC.

Should you have any enquiries, please contact Ms Lanna Lam, Equal Opportunities and Disability Access Officer (2948 6012 or eodao@eduhk.hk) or Miss Ella Lee (2948 6021 ecmlee@eduhk.hk).
