Event Highlights: Leading Schools in the AI Era: Greater Bay Area Forum for Primary and Secondary School Principals cum Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony

The Department of Mathematics and Information Technology (MIT) of The Education University of Hong Kong (the University) successfully hosted the “Leading Schools in the AI Era: Greater Bay Area Forum for Primary and Secondary School Principals cum Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony” on 22 July 2026 at the Tai Po Campus. The event also formed part of the celebrations marking the 10th Anniversary of the University's Retitling.

The event was designed as a strategic platform to promote educational innovation, deepen regional cooperation and foster sustainable talent development mechanisms across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It brought together principals, school leaders, educators, researchers and industry representatives from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR to exchange experience and insights on AI-enhanced teaching and learning.

The event commenced with Opening Speech delivered by Dr Ling Man Ho Alpha, Acting Head of MIT. This was followed by the Cooperation Agreement Signing Ceremony, a key highlight of the event. During the ceremony, six primary or secondary schools formally established collaborative partnerships with MIT. These partnerships aim to enhance students' exposure to innovative learning opportunities in AI and STEAM education, facilitate professional exchange and pedagogical dialogue among educators, strengthen talent development and graduate employability within GBA, and foster long-term mutually beneficial collaboration among all participating institutions.

Partner schools included (Schools are listed in no particular order):

     - Capital Normal University Boya Primary School of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (橫琴粵澳深度合作區首都師範大學伯牙小學)

     - Dongguan Nancheng Sunshine No.5 Primary School (東莞市南城陽光第五小學)

     - Jinshi Experimental Middle School (International Division) (金石實驗中學國際部)

     - Pui Ching Middle School Macau (澳門培正中學)

     - Macau Pooi To Middle School (澳門培道中學)

     - Gertrude Simon Lutheran College (路德會西門英才中學)

 

Following the signing ceremony, representatives from partner schools shared their schools’ experiences and innovative practices in integrating AI and technology into education. The sharing sessions showcased a diverse range of successful practices in AI-supported teaching and future-ready education, offering participants valuable insights into how schools across different regions are responding to rapid technological advancements.

The event also featured a round-table discussion entitled “How Schools Guide Students to Use AI Properly”. The discussion brought together experts and school leaders to examine the opportunities and challenges associated with AI in education. Panelists exchanged views on AI literacy, ethical considerations, student well-being and the evolving role of schools in preparing young people for an increasingly AI-driven world.
