The Education University of Hong Kong
Department of Mathematics and Information Technology
Research Cluster - Mathematics Education
Our research cluster focuses on mathematics education across school, university, and informal learning contexts. We investigate how technology and artificial intelligence can support students’ mathematical understanding, problem-solving, and reasoning, as well as how teachers and researchers can best integrate these tools into their teaching and research practices. Furthermore, we conduct cutting-edge research and educational projects, working closely with frontline teachers and the Education Bureau (EDB) to ensure our work addresses authentic classroom needs and facilitate the effective implementation of policies in mathematics education. Some signature projects include:
- The Design and Practice of Synchronous Online Mathematics Instruction: A Visual Learning Analytics-supported Design-based Study (UGC – ECS; Dr. LO Chung Kwan).
- The Development and Delivery of Mathematical Modeling Enrichment Certificate Course for Primary Mathematics Teachers (EDB; Dr. WANG Dichen).
- Developing Learning and Teaching Resource Packages for Conducting Mathematical Modelling through Inquiry and Investigation (EDB; Dr. LO Chung Kwan). Website: https://www.edb.gov.hk/en/curriculum-development/kla/ma/res/mmres.html
- Online Dynamic Educational Resources for Junior Secondary School Mathematics: Research & Development with Teacher Training (Tin Ka Ping Foundation; Dr. LO Chung Kwan). Website: http://www.elearning-math-ggb.site/
- Mathematical Exploration and Modelling for Gifted Students in Hong Kong Junior High Schools (GEF; Dr. CHENG Kell Hiu Fai).
