Design and Technology [Code: DT]
The main purpose of this subject study is to prepare participants in teaching technology education at all levels, particularly the Design and Applied Technology (DAT) at the senior secondary level in Hong Kong. This major is unique in that we specifically aim at producing DAT educators and curriculum developers who would contribute to the development of technology education in Hong Kong. This subject attempts to focus on strengthening and broadening the participants’ understanding of the fundamental concepts in technology, creative design and society as well as pedagogical knowledge in teaching and learning technology.
This subject emphasises on the generic pedagogical needs in the teaching practices of technology education, and creative teaching methods will be discussed such as thematic learning conceptual framework, procedural/technological/societal knowledge for design and technology curriculum, strategies in problem solving and assessments. This rigorous study will enable teachers to teach creatively from a holistic point of view, as well as to prepare them for further involvement in technology education development and policy making.

Information Technology [Code: IT]
This subject study focuses on the learning and teaching of IT related subjects in secondary schools. It develops participants' competency in designing and delivering IT lessons, and the ability to create learning communities for their students. The issues relating to IT management in schools will also be explored. Through workshops, case studies, lectures, projects and tutorials, participants will develop sufficient confidence and creativity in the use of IT, and also explore and experiment with the various ways that IT can be applied in educational contexts. Graduates will be able to teach all IT relevant subjects at both junior and senior secondary levels. The assessment of the subject may include production of teaching materials, group projects and report writing.

Mathematics [Code: MA]
This subject study aims to prepare untrained university graduates to become competent and confident beginning teachers in secondary schools in Hong Kong. This subject study provides opportunities for participants to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of newly qualified secondary school teachers, the understanding of life-long learning and the responsibilities and obligations that a professional teacher should possess and fulfill.
Graduates for the subject study are expected to be knowledgeable mathematics teachers, able to use their pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics teaching practices, able to design and implement the mathematics curriculum and assessment practices in secondary mathematics.

EdUHK is one of the teacher education providers in Hong Kong. Graduates of the University’s teacher education programmes are eligible to apply to become fully qualified Registered Teachers. For registration as a teacher, graduates should approach the Teacher Registration Team of the Education Bureau (EDB) to submit applications directly. All applications will be independently assessed by the EDB which will consider, among other things, whether an applicant has been convicted of any criminal offence (including sex-related offences) in Hong Kong or elsewhere, or is involved in any ongoing criminal proceedings or investigations.
