Event Highlights: University graduates for Industry 5.0 in the Era of AI
MIT conducted an insightful seminar led Dr Christine O'dea from King’s College London on 16 March 2026, focused on the critical skills needed for graduates to thrive in the human-centric vision of Industry 5.0. During our discussions, we examined essential questions:
- What skill gaps limit our graduates' readiness for Industry 5.0?
- How can universities effectively bridge these gaps?
Dr O'dea highlighted that while existing frameworks provide a strong foundation in academic and professional skills, there are significant deficiencies in intuitive know-how, such as complex problem-solving, adaptability, and creativity. These competencies are vital for preparing students to collaborate effectively with emerging technologies.
The seminar underscored the pressing need for innovative, human-centered curriculum strategies to address these gaps and enhance AI literacy and workforce readiness.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr O'dea for sharing her profound expertise, and to all the colleagues and preservice teachers who participated and contributed to this important and inspiring dialogue.
