The Second Hong Kong–Hangzhou Primary Mathematics Education Symposium (PMES), guided by the Mathematics Education Section of the Curriculum Support Division of the Hong Kong Education Bureau and the Hangzhou Educational Research Association, was successfully held on April 18–19, 2025, at Hangzhou Qian Xuesen School.
The event was jointly hosted by the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology (MIT) at The Education University of Hong Kong, Hengyi College of Education at Hangzhou Normal University, and the Primary Mathematics Professional Committee of the Hangzhou Education Association. The symposium served as a dynamic platform for mathematics educators from both regions to exchange ideas, share best practices, and strengthen educational collaboration between Hong Kong and Hangzhou.
Dr. Ling Man Ho Alpha, Acting Head of MIT, delivered brief opening remarks and presented souvenirs to the organizers of the PMES. Dr. Zhang Qiaoping delivered an insightful keynote speech on the integration of technology—including artificial intelligence—into mathematics lesson design and teachers’ professional development. Supported by the Global Learning Enhancement Fund (GLEF), three BEd students from MIT also participated in the event.
This year’s symposium, themed “Competence-oriented Mathematics Teaching and Assessment,” attracted more than 500 mathematics educators from Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, and across China, fostering meaningful engagement and dialogue within the mathematics education community.
