International Congress on English Language Education and Applied Linguistics (ICELEAL 2022)

Date: 6 – 9 December 2022 (Tue – Fri)
Organiser: The Education University of Hong Kong

The ICELEAL2022 congress aims to bring together academics from around the world to report on their various research work related to English language education and applied linguistics. As English language education and applied linguistics are gaining momentum in this globalized world, we hope that through this congress we can promote Hong Kong as a hub for academic exchanges and collaborations in the area of English language education and applied linguistics. We welcome scholars and postgraduate students to report their studies in these areas.

Six leading scholars in the field of English Language Education and Applied Linguistics will be invited to be keynote speakers at our congress. Three pre-congress workshops will be offered by internationally established invited speakers on 6 December 2022 to provide opportunities for colleagues and postgraduate students to receive hands-on training in the areas of ‘corpus-based language learning and teaching’, ‘technology-enhanced language learning and teaching’, and ‘machine translation’. Two special symposiums will be organized as well. The first symposium will focus on ‘English Language Education in the Greater Bay Area’, aiming to bring researchers and practitioners from the Greater Bay Area of China together for academic exchanges. Leading scholars in the field of English Language Education and Applied Linguistics from Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong will be invited to give invited talks at the symposium. The second symposium will focus on ‘Postgraduates’ Research on Applied Linguistics and English Language Education’, so that postgraduate students from the Greater China areas and around the world can present their research work at the symposium and learn from each other. 'Best Paper Award for Postgraduate Students' will be awarded to up to two students.

The Congress is organised in collaboration with Beijing Foreign Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, South China Normal University and City University of Macau and is hosted by the Department of English Language Education, Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies, and Faculty of Humanities, the Education University of Hong Kong.
