HKIEd Breaks New Ground with Launch of
Doctor of Education
Programme

In January 2007, further enhancing the provision of quality education for educators across Hong Kong, the mainland and South East Asia, the Institute announced the launch of its first Doctor of Education (EdD) programme, which will commence in the 2007-08 academic year.

Targeting experienced teachers, principals, school leaders, senior educational professionals in government and public organisations, who hold a Master's degree with at least four years of experience in their relevant fields; the EdD programme will initially offer two Areas of Study - Educational Measurement and Assessment and Language Education (English). The study of Educational Measurement and Assessment is the first of its kind not only in Hong Kong, but also in the Region.

The 72-credit-points programme, gives participants the flexibility to complete it, in either three to five years (full-time) or four to seven years (part-time), in three development stages - the Foundation Stage, Applied Stage and Autonomous Stage. Tuition fees are HK$64,000 per year for Year 1 to 3, and HK$38,000 per year for Year 4 and thereafter for full-time candidates. For part-time candidates they are HK$48,000 per year for Year 1 to 4, and HK$38,000 per year for Year 5 and thereafter.

With the Institute's critical mass in international expertise in the two Areas of Study, the EdD programme will help the education profession to meet increasing demands in the face of new challenges under the upcoming 3-3-4 academic structure, and the corresponding new public examination system.
