Though Hong Kong is so new to Eric, he can acutely feel the care and concern given by the HKIEd community. His experiences since August last year, the red tape he had to go through to change his 3-month tourist visa to a student visa, could have been nightmarish if not for the assistance offered to him by the lecturers of the English Department and staff of the Registry. Should Mr Philip Keung of the Registry not have readily agreed to be his guardian, Eric would not have been able to enter HKIEd. No wonder that Eric now affectionately refers to Philip as his "Daddy".
"The Institute really cares for the development of individual students. You simply feel the enthusiasm for education among the teaching staff. They have always prepared the best teaching material for their students. The teachers' passion is so profound that we are also moved and motivated to build up our own mission and commitment in education."
The hostel inmates of Grantham Hall were thrilled when they first learned of Eric's arrival. His roommate Johnny and other hallmates warmly invited Eric to participate in various activities, which helped Eric to quickly settle down in the new environment. Being a Christian, when he first joined HKIEd in mid-December, Eric was happy to be invited to join the Christmas Party. He is overjoyed by all the kindness that have been showered on him and reciprocates the hospitality by cooking African dishes for his friends.
