Forty-one students from our Bachelor of Education (Primary) and (Secondary) programmes, travelled to Oakland University, USA, and the University of British Columbia, Canada, to participate in a music immersion tour. The interactive and flexible teaching methods of the west, which focus on individual student exploration and experimentation, were an eye-opening experience for everyone concerned. One commented, "Music can be a cross-disciplinary subject. Seeing the students' total involvement in their music, teachers added musical elements to different subjects such as Mathematics, English, and History. This allowed students to make connections among the different subjects. In Hong Kong, music is seen as a learning activity outside the mainstream. If we can introduce more diverse elements into the instruction process, I believe we can greatly enhance learning outcomes in music." |
