Passport and Visa

Visitors need a valid passport. Hong Kong offers visa-free entry to nationals from over 170 countries. For visa details, visit https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/index.html. Those requiring visas should contact their local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. ​​

 

Language

Chinese and English are the official languages.

 

Currency

The local currency is the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD). Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be used at ATMs. ​

 

Tax

No sales tax or VAT. ​

 

Transportation

An Octopus card, which provides access to all public transport (MTR, trams, buses, ferries, and taxis), can be purchased at the MTR Service Centre. The Tourist MTR 1-Day Pass offers one day of unlimited travel on the MTR (excluding the Airport Express Line). Electricity

Hong Kong uses two plug types: Type D and Type G, with a standard voltage of 220 volts AC at 50Hz. ​​

 

Internet Access

Internet access is widely available. Wireless broadband is common in malls and coffee shops. ​​
